Two days to go and we manage to stay staunch with our ‘heels all week’ policy. Balenciaga, Marc, Chloe… the things we do for you. It’s all about the girls today with showings from Cohen et Sabine, Manning Cartell, Shakuhachi, TV, Karla Spetic and sass & bide. At 9pm we all head to the Cargo Hall for Antipodium’s hoedown themed runway show. We sit on bales of hay, sip cocktails and bop along to the rockabilly soundtrack. Then it’s off to their after party in Kings Cross where we bust our best Raquel Zimmermann-in-the-Gucci-commercial moves… Sneak off to Dean’s Cafe for some late night (or should that be early morning?) veggie nachos and sing along to The Doors on the jukebox before heading back to The Rocks for some much needed rest.
Middle of the week… drinking lots of chinottos to keep us going. The Ginger & Smart show started in a cloud of smoke: tribal techno music, gladiator sandles, rope belts and lots of colour. Natalie and Emma dash off-site to the Sydney Theatre for Young People to see Gail Sorronda’s monochrone showing, while the rest of us check out the bikini bods at Flamingo Sands. The models got relief from high heels at Marnie Skillings in their Repetto ballet flats - one of the most colourful shows of the week so far with watermelon and duck egg blue silks and bright bands of eyeshadow across the face. The Sretsis girls flew in from Bangkok to show a pretty collection of fantasy forest and owl prints. We round off the day with Romance Was Born at The Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Tee pees, cow’s heads and fake blood… these guys know how to put on a show.
It’s an early start off-site for the camilla & marc show at Luxe Studios in Darlinghurst. Luckily they have an espresso machine set up outside for the sleepy fashion folk. Katherine and Alex Keating are sitting front row looking fresh faced, while we long to hide behind our sunglasses. After a couple more heavy hitters (Lisa Ho and Zimmermann) it’s time for Australia’s young blood to show their stuff, including Silence is Golden, LIFEwithBIRD, Bec&Bridge and Jessie Hill. We finish the day off with the highly anticipated showing of Ben Pollitt’s alter-ego label Friedrich Gray. We sit next to Australia’s Next Top Model winner and Lanvin catwalker Alice Burdeau and forgo the after parties in favour of Pizza and sleep.
We arrive at the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay ready for a grueling and exciting week of shows. It’s a chilly morning so the team heads straight to the Rosemount bar for some green tea and fruit kebabs. Kirrily Johnston kicks off the week with a mega celeb turnout. We sit opposite Miranda Kerr - all tanned limbs and flesh coloured Louboutins, and we also get a glimpse of Mischa Barton and Miranda Otto. The Nenah Cherry and M.I.A soundtrack gets us in the mood for the day ahead. Then it’s on to Nicola Finetti, One Teaspoon, Lee Matthews… a quick stop for sushi and back for some more shows. We finish off the day with a long wait for the Michelle Jank show (where we were impressed by the atmospheric digital background and simulated rain) and then wobble across the cobblestones in our high heels to the Rocks and our hotel base for the week - the Rendezvous on Harrington Street.
